Help! I was charged an InMail for a group Introduction
You asked
Yesterday I sent a free InMail to someone and one of my paid for Inmails was deducted. I did not want to spend one - maybe I've made a mistake but I don't think so - would they do such a thing do you think?
I doubt that the programming or LinkedIn's intent is intentionally wrong. It's rather bad design.
I've had the same thing happen to me where I realized after the fact that I was charged for an InMail that I hadn't intended to use. Your situation is likely similar to mine.
The source of the confusion is poor LinkedIn design where InMails are also used for group Introductions. Furthermore, sometimes the InMail is shown as "Free" for groups. Sometimes it is not.
You can't make the assumption that if someone is a fellow Openlink or group member you can send a group Introduction. Some groups are not set to receive direct Introductions from group members as a default. Also group members can elect not to receive direct Introductions from members on a group by group basis. In these cases you'll use an actual InMail. After you click InMail or Free InMail you must check the message form to see whether you're actually using an InMail or group introduction.
