LinkedIn member email address issues

The problem

People change email addresses all the time due to job, work, and ISP changes. LinkedIn supports a primary and multiple email addresses. However there is no alternate address that is accessible to others. There is no automatic LinkedIn probe and subsequent contact that alerts a member or connection if the primary address is invalid. If you use or a connection has a primary address that is no longer current, you're screwed.

Your current address

Maintaining a current LinkedIn address is important. Your connections use it to contact you and refer you to others. You receive invitation and contact notifications there. So make sure your LinkedIn primary address is current. You can add email addresses and change your primary LinkedIn address here.

Other LinkedIn member addresses

What do you do if you're trying to reach a connection whose email address is invalid. Here are a few suggestions:

• If you have a LinkedIn Group and the connection is a member, look up the member there. Alternate addresses are displayed to group owners.
• Reconnect with the user through good ol' InternetSleuthing.
• Ask one of your connections to contact him through you, and when you make the intro, you can ask him to send you his email address (submitted by Konstantin).
• More direct - use a LinkedIn endorsement to ask your connection to update and provide his current address
