Getting Started as an Entrepreneur
You asked
I have an idea that I would like to try and bring to the market but I don't even know where or when to start.
An idea has zero value. There are millions of ideas, many very good. What makes them valuable is their execution. This gives rise to the saying that a new ventures is only 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.
Building your venture requires progress in many areas. You must grow from an idea to a full business plan that shows how you'll be successful and make money. You'll need to develop a funding plan. Then there's the business itself. You'll need to start building a product, recruiting a team (partners, staff, advisors), raising money, etc.
So where do you start? Here are a few initial ideas.
- First, decide if you really want to be an entrepreneur and make a serious commitment in time and money. It's hard for others to take you seriously when it appears you have no "skin in the game", i.e. you've made no commitment in time, money, and effort to turn your concept into something real.
- If you are willing to commit, then get support for the idea. Run the concept by a few people in the industry to get feedback and ideas. Find market research that indicates the need for your idea. Participate in industry and entrepreneur news, forums, and services to be become more knowledgeable and better connected.
- Find a mentor to help guide you.
